I really liked this vn. English isn’t my native language, but machine translation was enough to see well-written, soulful characters, a fleshed-out world, and I was especially impressed by the choice of what Rael would be like. I have a feeling that this vn has huge potential, and that’s why I wish the author tons of patience and inspiration! There are far too many potentially great vns that will never be finished because they’re abandoned.
P.S. Zuberi, you’re crushing my soul… crush it harder…
Thank you very much for the kind words! I'm glad that you were able to enjoy Void Dreaming with some translation help, and I hope one day I'm able to actually secure enough resources to afford for it to be translated into other languages to help with that. In the mean time, don't worry; I have a lot of patience and inspiration already, and more is always welcome! I've been working really hard on new updates, and I hope everyone can look forward to them!
Origin combinations, how organic the world building is. Im so use to many other FVNs it's MC doing a mix of narration/inner monologue often being one in the same sentence to give context to the reader, tho in universe that doesnt make any sense. This game doesn't do that thankfully, it actually conveys context correctly. Each character is has an expertise in a subject, while others won't, so they'll explain it to them in-game cuz they genuinely don't know. This is how us the reader learns about game's world in universe again, in a very organic realistic way. I cannot stress how meticulously detailed all of this is done, on top of dialogue choices, origin combinations changing roughly 80% of what you'd think be the same scene damn near entirely.
The replay value is absolutely massive, and yet the continuity stays consistent for that playthrough. I'm just so enthralled with its world. My only grip is there isn't an in-game wiki for all these terminologies to keep track of. Thankfully there is a Stats to show your origin combo, skills and affinity for the crewmates, much appreciated.
Edit: I forgot to mention how wonderfully expressive the character sprites are even moving their mouths and tails too to properly convey their excitement
Goodness, thank you so much! I've certainly put a lot of work into Void Dreaming to make sure everything has its contextual place, heh heh. I'm really glad you're enjoying the story so far; there's a lot more on the horizon!
Once I have the funds to organize actual UI work and you don't have to worry about my shoddy programming for it, I absolutely would like to have a codex of sorts for the story, which would absolutely include terminology you could look up and what they mean in-universe. Time will tell if I have the resources to arrange that, alas!
Finally, somebody combined my two favorite things: Mass Effect and horny furries.
I got the feeling just from the "Warnings" page that I was going to like the writing style here, and the rest of the game did not disappoint. Dialogue is sharp and snappy but never feels unrealistic, and I think the work you've put in to make all the characters feel like actual people with flaws and positives and not just one-note tropes is exceptional. Personally only Zuberi and Celeia really do anything for me romantically (though I haven't entirely given up on Sam and Tulemeni yet), but everyone on the crew is someone that I'd like to get to know better as our adventure progresses. I will say though that I read in another comment that Obaa will not be romanceable. My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined. You made a better EDI and then immediately friendzoned me. Unbelievable :P
I also really like how you're handling the lore and the setting of the Void Dreamer and its mission, and I'm interested in seeing where the plot actually goes since presumably it's not just going to be space summer camp forever.
My only real concern here is that this VN is ambitious. Like real ambitious. This is already being somewhat managed at this stage with everything more or less going to the same place (e.g., no matter your background there's always something you have to choose to come clean about to the crew or lie about) but there are still a lot of variables to juggle as paths and routes presumably begin to branch out a bit more. I think you're already also getting a good start on managing this through the efforts at transparency, and I really hope you can keep that up because if you can this is going to be something really special :)
First, thank you so much for the very kind review! It really means the world to me!
I'm so very sorry regarding Obaa's lack of a romance path, but unfortunately Rael is just too much of a meaty fleshbag to appeal to her godlike mechanical sensibilities. You'll have to settle for some of the rest of the crew to romance, but I'm sure she's well aware of the fact that you, like all mortal, organic fleshlings, adore her. As you should. And while I'm not sure I made a better EDI, Obaa is absolutely certain of that fact.
Void Dreaming is absolutely an ambitious project, and I absolutely understand the concern about the number of variables in play! It's not going to be easy, but fortunately for everyone involved I'm stubborn and just crazy enough to do it anyway. Fortunately, as some of the blog posts have pointed out, Void Dreaming only has one narrative route though it. How you make it through that narrative and the choices you make that affect the outcome, though? That's all you!
I want this to be something truly special, and I really hope that my ambition and my execution are enough to convince people to support the project so I can bring it to life the way it deserves to be. And hey, if you need any more assurance that I'm working my backside off for this, there's always the Patreon; you can see just how much crazier it gets; they're already on the first half of Day 3 over there!
No no, you definitely made a better EDI. I always felt the original was missing something and she might just have needed Obaa's sprinkling of HK-47 energy to really push her over the edge. But I will continue to regret that she does not have a sexy robot body with which to pulverize Rael's pelvis.
I apologize if I had missed anything about the overall structure in the blog posts (of which there is delightfully a lot of text) and I also apologize for misspelling Caleia's name in the original comment. I doubt she'll sleep with Rael after that blunder so we're really striking out here.
Duly noted on the sales pitch - I'll check out the Patreon and maybe you'll see this username pop up there too :)
Then I'll take the better-than-EDI compliment in the spirit it's intended, and be very grateful! And hey, who knows? Maybe there can be a sexy robot body to download herself into, and you can be like, "Sweet. Yes." Oh, memes...
No apologies are needed, either! There's a lot to go through in those blog posts, and I hope you find them informative and (hopefully also) entertaining! I can't forgive you for the Caleia typo; no doubt she's already en route with a generous serving of arse-kicking deliciously delivered. Whether or not that's something you're into is a question I leave to you!
Heh, I don't like sales pitch stuff to be honest; I'm not very good at it, either. I don't want to put financial strain on anyone just to fund my work! But hey, if you happen to find your way over there, I do hope you enjoy what's available! I know the Discord's been all abuzz about it, too!
I am loving this VN so far great work! This vn has really impressed me for how new it is, and has cemented it's spot as one of the vn's that I am impatiently awaiting new updates for:))
The only slight suggestion that I have is maybe make a glossary for terms. There are a few sci-fi terms and words that I didn't understand the definitions of, and when I went to google them, not much came up! I feel like that would help us readers understanding the world building a little bit better too!! (I feel like an example of this can be seen in NeveN)
Or maybe instead of a glossary or "journal" you could make the terms hoverable and include the definition that way as well. (An example of this can be seen in Cienie)
I apologize if I shouldn't mention other vns here, just let me know, and I'll edit my comment and remove the titles! I just thought I'd give examples of ways those features were implemented!!
edit: I got so impatient that I went to go support the patreon for new content! This is one of 3 FVNs where I just couldn't wait for the public release! Definitely give this game a shot:)
edit edit: Also ppl who are initially put off by Mizz and Caleia give them a chance!! Maybe I got really lucky with my choices but they really grew on me a ton! :))))
Goodness, thank you so much! I've put a lot of work in to try and make Void Dreaming something very special, and it's been wonderful to hear how people are enjoying it!
I do hope to have a codex of sorts for the setting accessible from within the VN itself, but that's something that'll have to be well down the line. It depends on funds for me to have someone to help with the UI assets, so hopefully if the Patreon support is sufficient (and thank you so much for yours!), I'll be able to do it. And no, you can absolutely mention other VNs here! No harm done, heh heh. Worst case scenario, they might get some extra views thanks to your words, and that's a good thing!
I'm glad you're enjoying Caleia and Mizz! Not every character is going to rub every reader the right way, but I'm glad that all of the characters are resonating with some readers at least!
This is frankly one of the most high quality first builds I've ever seen. Most FVNs I've read don't even reach this level of content on their third or fourth build. The character customization and how it affects your interactions is something I've only seen in narrative 3A games. Truly Incredible work.
The crew are certainly an interesting bunch, and are all pretty likeable too. I'm still rather unsettled by Mizz and Caleia, though I'm sure that'll change with time. My favourite has to be Obaa, she's both mysterious and otherworldly but yet somehow very approachable. I am looking forwards to the day when she revels more about her past and true name. (does she have a route? I would love to get to know her more intimately.) Aside from her, the captain and Tulemeni are both caught my attention as well.
Can't wait for the next update. Please keep this project going! :3
Thank you so much for the kind words! I can't wait to do more with Void Dreaming so that it looks and sounds and IS so much more polished than it is right now, but that's going to take time, alas. At least there's a lot of variety with that Origin system to keep you occupied for now!
Obaa doesn't have a romance, but you can definitely build up your relationship with her just as surely as you can with the rest of the crew. She's got her own story as surely as everyone else. I'm also so glad you like Tulemeni; I was worried people wouldn't!
Not looking to stop anytime soon, but there's plenty more on the Patreon now if you're interested (with more to come literally within the week!)
Thanks so much, Jasper! Tulemeni and Obaa are both a lot of fun, and I hope you continue to enjoy the story as it unfolds! There's a lot more of both of them to come!
This is one of my favorites furry VN's that I've seen, and my favorite sci-fi furry vn
I really liked the characters (surprised at how quickly I changed my opinions on Caleia, the scenario (that is all handdrawn not just a stock image, I really like that), and most importantly, the way the character's backstory actually adds changes to the game instead of just being being a few extra dialogue lines
If I had to make a critique of this game, I would say that there seem to be a few missing sprites, as in, sometimes the sprites don't align very well with the written reactions.
Also, not now but maybe in a few updates, add a gallery please. And let us see the main character more than just once cause he looks really nice
But yeah, easy 5 stars to me.
Edit: also forgot to add something very important: even if it's the first day, and it's only the "tutorial", and it's the first build of the game, there is still a substancial amount of content that's way bigger than vast majority of "first builds" i've seen
I'm so glad that you're enjoying Void Dreaming, thank you so much! I've put a lot of work into the project and it's so wonderful to hear from people enjoying it!
There'll definitely be expanded sprites for the full cast if I can get the money together for it, but I wanted to make sure I had enough to get the impression across in the meantime. Hopefully they do well enough for now, but there'll hopefully be more in the future if Void Dreaming does well. I'm optimistic! A gallery will also come down the line, once the UI is getting sorted out properly, so there's that to look forward to as well!
And don't worry, there'll be plenty of chances to see Rael in the CGs and splash screens still to come!
The VN is CRAZY GOOD, love how it reads and the multitudes of different interactions from the origins! The sci-fi world building is really nice, looking forward to what else comes ahead!
I've actually considered it; I didn't allow Itch pricing because of focus. I didn't want to have to manage a bunch of different vendors and such for the project, so I wanted to keep options narrow for simplicity's sake. I'm tempted to open up a Ko-Fi just for donations, and if I do I'll likely do so sometime around the end of the month and start of May. We'll see!
But most importantly, I don't want people to feel like they have to donate. Void Dreaming definitely needs funding if I'm going to make it the best it can be, but I understand that times are hard and people are doing it tough. The global economy is... let's say not great right now? So if people can't sub (or donate when the time comes), I absolutely don't mind. It's why I want the public version to always be an option for people to enjoy!
Thanks so much, I'm so glad that you're enjoying Void Dreaming so much! Worldbuilding is definitely a passion of mine and I can get a bit carried away on it, but it's always a thrill to know that people are enjoying my particular brand of madness. There's a lot more to come, and I hope you enjoy that, too!
Hello! I'm A Furry VN Enthusiast, always wanting to try New VNs that are out there and I have been waiting for this since January! Only just moments ago I finished going through & what an experience! For sure the best FVN I've read this year!
Everything is truly exceptional, top notch, shows a lot of promise, unbelievable quality of the artistic grandeur both the backgrounds & sprites, colorful all round including the set of characters! Writing & Music are amazing too! 'Phenomenal' is the word to use here. Another would be 'Astonishing'
No wonder people are talking about it. The hype I've seen is justified! You sir have truly outdone yourself. Keep up THIS CRAZY GOOD VN!
I want to let you know that I found out about your VN from this FVN Community Discord Server [see pic below]. You can see there's many people positively reacting to the launch.
If you're looking to: -Promote Your VN -Make more people aware of its existence -Getting feedback, tips, have discussions & networking or -Just hangout with other VN Creators I recommend joining the community if you have discord.
Its a great place of resources for VN Developers. You can become a better developer as am sure the other VN Devs are willing to share their experiences & give you some advice.
You can also search for specific people with talents like musician/proofreader/editor/specific programmer etc.
Overall, there's a lot of helpful people and a nice atmosphere. I hope you will enjoy the server & wishing you luck for the future & how the next update will pan out! Highly Excited & Can't Wait!
I'm so glad you've enjoyed Void Dreaming; thank you so much! I'm always surprised that there's been hype for it, but it's so validating to hear that people are having a good time with it!
Thanks for the link to that discord! I know I have too many to keep track of already and another big one would probably be too much for me so I may not make it in, but it's incredibly cool to know that VD is being talked about outside my own little circle. I just hope I can keep entertaining you all!
That's very kind of you, Jack, and thank you! Trust me, I'm still hard at work; I don't think I've ever worked harder in my life than the last month or so, and it's all uphill from here!
i think its the first time i see a mc soo emotionally intelligent, he is empathetic, he knows his own mistakes and what he needs and wants to do, he is socially intelligent, and he knows how to talk to people straight to the point and still be respectful.
Thank you so much! I wanted Rael to be a character in his own right, and since choice is such an important part of Void Dreaming, it wouldn't have made sense for him to be any other way. I'm glad that you're enjoying him!
If you lock your romance with Mizz out of the equation, you'll not express any sexual interest in him. This doesn't mean he won't flirt; that's just in his nature! Even an asexual Rael still gets hit on from time to time by Mizz, but he knows that it won't go anywhere.
Ace Rael or an uninterested Rael simply won't ever be given the option to get down and dirty with Mizz, and narrative and dialogue will reflect that choice. None of your choices for Rael will stop that cheetah, though, heh heh. Hope that helps!
You have 5 days until the end of the game, right? Is it possible to see every character arc in a single playthrough? Or you have to replay the game in order to see everything the remaining characters have to say? Hope I'm not bothering
It's no bother; I'm very happy to answer any questions I can!
At the moment, the whole story of Void Dreaming is expected to be sixteen days long, not five. While you could see a lot of character arcs in a single read, you wouldn't be able to see all of them. And a single read through the whole story would still leave a lot of scenes that you've missed seeing, as well as options not taken due to Origin differences and paths not opened by Skill checks you could otherwise succeed.
Void Dreaming is absolutely designed to be read multiple times!
Astonishing novel. I'm in love with your writing style, nuanced characters, and the way how much the MC's background matters in the novel, the way how Rael is an important character on his own. Art direction is brilliant, simply put.
I've read all your dev blogs, and damn. I've been trying to write a text for a VN for such a long while. But this can be SUCH a money sink. I sometimes feel like I need to be a billionaire to be able to afford all the art, music, and everything else. Not sure if my dreams will ever come true lol. I'm not even starting on the programming and the need to learn renpy.....
But that means I just fully understand how much of an accomplishment the release of your VN is. Congratulations, and keep up the great work.
Also Zuberi stole my damn heart. I can't have enough of this gentleman!
Thank you so much for all of the very kind words! I'm so glad that you've enjoyed Void Dreaming this much, and I really hope that I can hold to that standard or exceed it as the project develops!
The cost of something like this, especially the way I'm doing it, is pretty immense. I'm not one of those suspiciously wealthy furries, so it's definitely been a slog to get the resources together for even the first few months of release and updates. The reception so far has been proof that it was the right call; you only get one chance to make a first impression, and I'm glad that it seems like I made the right cuts and the right choices for this.
But don't lose heart on your own project! It's a long, long road to produce something like this, and as you've already discovered, it's not easy. Nothing in life that's truly worth doing ever is all that easy though, but you don't have to do it alone. There's plenty of FVN devs out there who're more than happy to offer advice and help you on your way. You've got this! You can do it!
And thank you again for your kindness, and for giving Void Dreaming a shot. More Zuberi awaits, I promise!
First, thanks so much for the kind words! I'm so glad you enjoyed the writing; I cultivated it myself over many years as a starving artist. I still am one, but I used to be, too!
While I can't remember where I found them, the in-game text is a version of a font called Helmet, the names are a variant of one called Atmospheric, and the interface text is one called Beasigne. I may wind up changing the interface and name fonts, but I'm quite fond of them now!
Those are the old versions, just in case anyone's interested in them for any reason. I plan to retain all versions of a specific day's release until the next full day comes out, at which point I'll be wiping the slate clean and only keeping the last of the builds from that day!
Love your writing style—lots of fun banter and witty narration. The scenes are well paced, the art is hella cute, and the character dynamics so far have me vry excited for some found family type spacecrew drama. (Getting The Expanse vibes from this, and I love those books to death!)
I'm usually not too interested in RPG-lite or non-kinetic visual novels, but this one I'll definitely keep my eyes on. Great first build!
Edit: One suggestion; I think an option to show the -+'s to character mood as it changes in script might prevent some frustration. As someone who'll always pick the funny and obviously negative roleplay decisions first, it's nice to know when said choice has numerical consequences attached, rather than it just being flavor.
Thank you so much for the kind words! I'm glad you're enjoying your time with Void Dreaming and I'm doubly glad you're enjoying the dialogue. Honestly, I feel like character writing and dialogue is one of the harder things for me to nail down, so it's been so gratifying to hear people connecting with the characters! I'm even more glad that you're having a great time even without this being your preferred kinda VN!
I do like where you're coming from with the idea of seeing in advance what options are going to do for a character, but there's two reasons why I didn't go with that. The first is because Void Dreaming is designed to be replayable, with a lot of variation in how you can approach things each time! And the second is because leaving it ambiguous makes it feel more impactful every time you get to make a choice, which is integral to the feel I was going for with the story. I won't go so far as to say you're wrong, just that it doesn't work for what I'm going for. I dig the suggestion, and I'm always open to more!
Thanks so much again, and I hope I can continue to entertain you!
I was happily surprised with this game. Story is interesting, characters are charismatics and what surprised me the most is that the background you choose actually matters in conversations. It's not just 1 or 2 different lines of dialogues either, because your choice change how some characters interact with you and that's very refreshing to see in a furry VN. AND MC is his own character (and a very strong one so far). Not only that, but as a bisexual man, I deeply appreciate female romance options too. Give this game a try if you didn't already, it will surprise you.
Goodness, thank you so much for the very kind words! I've worked so hard on Void Dreaming, and it's lovely to finally see people resonating with it the way that I do!
I'm doubly grateful that you're getting some rep, too! Bi erasure is a serious problem, so I wanted to make sure there were femme options there. It seemed like an easy choice, given the world's not populated with only masc characters, so why should my story? And Caleia and Tulemeni are so great to write!
Thanks again for your kindness, and I hope I can continue to entertain you in the updates to come!
We are a team of ExGames translators. We would like to ask permission to translate your vn's from the original language into russian. A lot of people liked your novel, but due to the language barrier they cannot read it in the original. Our team is translating various furry novels into Russian, and in order for people to be able to touch your work, we are asking for your permission to translate. There are a large number of short stories in the list of translations we have, and we would like your short story to join it.
Our translators receive a nominal payment for translation, since the project is supported by donations from Russian-speaking readers. For translation, we use only publicly available versions of novels and, after translation is completed, we post them on a platform similar to Patreon for a period of 1-2 weeks for those who want to get earlier access to the translation. Subsequently, the translation becomes publicly available and any user can download it for free.
For each publication, we always add a link to the page with the novel, and if necessary, we can insert links to your social networks.
We are also ready to provide all the necessary translation files for their implementation in the official assembly, if you are interested in expanding the number of available languages for reading.
We really hope for a positive decision, as we want to further develop the Russian-speaking furry community.
Thanks for your time! Best regards, ExGames Translation Team❤️❤️
I'm not averse to translations being sorted out down the road, but the problem with Void Dreaming is that the scale of it is so massive that it would feel burdensome for me to have people doing translations of it into other languages without fair compensation. I try to make sure that anyone doing a service for me and for this project is paid for it, so that's likely something I'll sort out at a later date once I'm certain of how the project goes.
So while I'd not like to go ahead with that right now, I'll keep your services in mind if it becomes a viable option for me to support in future. Thanks again for the interest and the offer!
Perhaps you didn't understand what I meant. We don't need you to pay us for the translation. All we need is your permission to translate the vn and for you to give us permission to monetize. By monetization I mean publishing our translation on Boosty. Boosty is a platform like Patreon, we publish the translated build there, it stays there for two weeks. After these two weeks, the translation automatically becomes free forever and anyone can download and play. And the money we receive during these two weeks goes to pay for the work of our translator. Because he is also a human being and deserves to be paid for his work. We use for translation ONLY those builds that have been released for free access on your Itch.io. If at some point you want to implement our translation as the official Russian language, we will be happy to provide you with all the files🥰
Well, I think that's it? If you have any questions or anything else, just write to me and I'll be happy to answer you.
I absolutely got what you meant, no worries there. As I said though, I wouldn't feel right about someone taking on a translation project for Void Dreaming just yet given the scale of it. I'd rather wait until I can guarantee that someone is being paid sufficiently well before I do so.
This is the answer I've given the others who've offered translation efforts so far, so it's nothing against you specifically! If I can get enough support together, I'll be glad to consider your team for the translation efforts. Until then, I'd rather wait until I can offer something in turn.
So to clarify, the answer is no at present, sorry! But perhaps in future when I can afford to, I can revisit it then.
I don't know how to begin exactly, but I'll start with stating the obvious: VD is good, like, really good. Mass Effect like backgrounds, skill system, various routes, Rael doesn't seem to be an issekai character. Great job.
Especially I'd like to note female romance options, not something you can see in furry novels a lot. And Caleia? Mmm, just wonderful, I'm very excited to see her softer side...
Speaking of, it's alright if I didn't get a choice to hang with her after meetup with crew( I chose the second shift)?
Thank you so much for the kind words; I'm so thrilled that you've enjoyed your time with Void Dreaming so far! It was very important to me that there be some femme rep; I didn't want to fall into the trap of, "Oops, it's all gay dudes in this world!" There's femmes, and they're pretty cool... or so I think! I'm also glad you like Caleia; she's a lot of fun to write!
Don't worry if you didn't get a chance to hang out with Caleia directly after the meetup! But maybe, if you're inclined to give it another go-around, you might have a chance to catch her indirectly somehow...
Thanks so much again! I hope you continue to enjoy!
Amazing start! I'm definitely going to be keeping a close eye on this VN for updates! Really thankful that someone posted this on Reddit! The story is very enjoyable and it has a fun colorful cast of characters. I love the fact that we get to choose the background of the MC and can't wait to see how that effects the story! I look forward to future updates! Keep up the amazing work!!
Thank you so much, I'm so glad you've enjoyed what you've seen so far! The next day is already available on Patreon, but it should hit the Itch page soon enough. There's a lot of work to do moving forward, but I promise I'm more excited about it than even you!
Awesome! Even tho it just started, the way it's written beats so much stuff I've read (more so regarding the start of VNs, where it's common for it to suck a bit, needing a lot of corrections hahaha)
Made me really feel like I was in the novel, instead of some onlooker ;)
It contains some sensitive themes, but the way it was talked-so far at least-was very interesting.
It's also very cool that even it being "linear", u can kind of make your character at the start of the game. Waiting to see how it'll develop btw, considering it's "one route; many paths"... I usually play a lot of paths in VNs, so I'm kinda curious how they'll all correlate to one another here.
Tulemeni first appearance freaked me out a bit :3 she stares at your soul with no emotion hahaha
Zuberi is hot in a way I've never seen in a furry art before, glad I got to know another awesome artist as a plus :P
Oh btw, if I understood correctly they all (or mostly) have canine bits (dongs instead of dicks). I haven't seen any info about it here, and not everyone is into it, so if u don't plan to add an option in the settings to like change to more "humanlike" if it's preferred, maybe it's worth it to mention that about fantasy dicks here.
Firstly, thanks so much for the kind words! I'm so glad that you've enjoyed your time with Void Dreaming so far; I can only hope that you've got a long, enjoyable journey with the crew ahead of you!
Only the canids have the canid bits! If that's going to upset or turn people away, that's not something that I can help; there is, however, always the option to play Rael as asexual! This will automatically turn him away from most all sexual situations, and spare the eyes of any reader who might find the content objectionable.
The point about a content warning is very well received; I'll see about adding that information to the Warnings section in future builds to help prepare people. Thanks!
Actually unbelivable quality release for a launch, it is absurd how polished and good this feels right from the beginning
Super heartened to see how well recieved this has immediately been because it absolutely deserves the praise, and this is the fastest I've wanted to support a project's development before- huge props to everyone involved!
Thank you so, so much for the kind words! The artists and I have all worked so hard to make this what it is, and I can't wait to see how I can push it to be even better. The response has been so overwhelmingly positive; I don't think a single person has had anything bad to say about it yet! I know it'll happen (can't please everyone, after all), but the response has exceeded all my expectations by miles! Kilolights, even!
Thank you in advance for the support; it'll all go toward making Void Dreaming even better. I can't wait to show off more of this project to everyone!
Oh i absolutely loved this vn so far, definitely excited to see it continue. Love how much replayability there is with obviously the various character you can romance but with all the dialogue and path changes that are made through the choices we make, really dont get to see that a lot in vns. Realllyyyyy excited to see where this story goes
Thank you so much, Kairo! I really wanted to lean into what a VN can let a story be, and I hope that you continue to enjoy the choices (and consequences) your Rael can make!
Firstly this VN is exceptional, props to the people who made this all come together. I eagerly await future updates!
Small spoilers ahead!
I want to say that the writing is phenomenal, it portrays the world with such a nice depth that not only sets up for future events but events in the story but creates a liveliness that exists outside the context of the main characters and plot. Speaking of the characters I think all of them are extremely well written and and I am very excited to learn more about them and their pasts. Another thing I've really enjoyed about the narrative is how present Rael's past is, it's very refreshing to see a main character in a vn that has a context/history/past (sorry I wasn't sure how to word it) outside of the actions of the present. So far I have absolutely loved the cast of characters and each of their unique perspectives and personalities. So far I'd have to say my favorites are Obaa with her charming snark, and Zuberi with his genuine kindness and passion (and maybe I have a thing for dad bods but that's besides the point). Mizz and Sam are close behind and I can tell the others will grow on me with time especially Caleia, at first I was kinda iffy but after the group talk and her calling me a good boy (I literally walk away from my computer for a second because I was flabbergasted) I think I'm really gonna enjoy her character. So far I am absolutely loving it 10/10, but maybe that's just because this appeals to my favorite brand of Sci-fi nerd shit.
I must say the art for this project is top notch, with a beautiful sprites that have a handful of great animated expressions for each character (I like the laughing ones the most, Sam bent over like that had me chuckling) and a multitude of excellent backgrounds (like 3 bg's just for Mizz's hangout was kinda wild and I loved it) this has got to be one of the best art directions I have seen in a vn in a while.
The stat system seems very very interesting and while I haven't run into any major decisions impacted by it yet (I think, but there's a possibility it impacted something without my knowledge) I am extremely excited to see how it affects the story.
So far I have only done the hangout scene with Mizz, and I took the Space, Dreamer, and Inventor options at the start, but I am definitely gonna go back and play through the hangouts with some other characters.
I can feel the love that has been put into this project, thank you for sharing it with us! And I am hyped for more lore on cool sci-fi shit!
Goodness, what a review! Thank you so, so much for reading through Void Dreaming, and I'm beyond thrilled you're so happy with what's been put together so far!
Just a couple of things that should maybe even get you more excited! Firstly, those backgrounds for Mizz's hangout? There's seven more to come, just to flesh the whole experience out a little more! Spacer, Dreamer, Innovator is a cool selection for Rael's Origins, and I'm glad you enjoyed your Rael and want to experiment with more options! And if you'd like even more lore, then check out the blog posts; a great deal of them are all about the worldbuilding elements that underpin the galaxy around the Dreamer!
Thanks again so much for your kind words, and I'll be sure to share them with the artists as well!
Wow, seven more backgrounds is wild, I can't wait! And I'll definitely have to give those blog posts a read through! After seeing such quality work like this I'm absolutely gonna become a patron once it goes live!
Might I suggest some QOL? Let us see origin-specific choices, even if we can't click on them, to better invite replayability (There are plenty of choices, passionate work need be appreciated). Talk about origin, I would suggest separating the origin from the skill point tree: I honestly spent quite some time trying for an origin AND tree that spoke to how I saw Rael, but it never quite fit. Additionaly, it seems rather easy to make him excel in many regards at once. Other than that, being able to see the Main Character's expression would be interesting, not only their thoughts. All in all, the game is already top notch, amazing! :)
Thanks so much for the kind words, and for the feedback!
On seeing the Origin specific choices even if you can't use them, that's an interesting idea! I'll probably run it as a poll in the future to see if that's something most people could like; I personally like the mystery, but that's just me!
Rael is meant to be quite exceptional for his age, hence the generally very impressive Skill spreads he can achieve through his Origins. On a mechanical level I needed readers to be able to have his Skills at the start be solid because they'll probably prefer to spend time with crew rather than train those Skills up. On a narrative level... you'll have to wait and see! Accordingly, decoupling Skills from Origins isn't something on the cards, sorry. Interesting idea, though!
A window beside the dialogue box for Rael's expression was considered, but funds precluded me from actually getting it done. That may change, if the Patreon takes off (once they let my page go live). We'll see; this is very early days for the project!
Thanks again for the thoughts, and I hope you continue to enjoy what's still to come!
This VN shows a ton of promise so far, can't wait for more. A bit of a lore question though, about biolocks. Is it basically immortality, or is it more like just an extended lifespan where you lock yourself at a certain age, the biolock wears off, you start aging again, and then after a while you can biolock yourself again to live much longer?
Hey, thanks for the question and the praise; I can't wait to get more out!
As Beloch mentions below, the Augmentions blog post actually deals with biomodding and cyberware in-setting, but the gist of it is that a biolock allows a person to lock their physical processes for a time at that physical age. It prolongs their lifespan, but biolocks can only last so long before they need to be replaced, and the body can only handle so many.
So people are still mortal, but they can live much, much longer lives as a result of the technology!
Oh goodness, thank you! Yep, it's me! Same me and all! I'm glad to hear you've enjoyed my other work, and I really hope that Void Dreaming blows it all out of the water. Interwoven was a lot, Blood and Water was a lot, but this is already so, so much bigger than anything I've done before. Fingers crossed it goes well!
I'm doing my best to make sure that there's an Android version ready for launch! I'm not in a position to promise anything, but at the moment my hope is that it will either be ready at launch, or shortly after. Fingers are crossed!
Thanks so much! I'm incredibly proud of the work that Vallhound and Rico have put into this project; they've done an incredible job bringing Void Dreaming to life. I can only hope my writing holds up to the quality standards that they've set for me!
I can 100% guarantee that I am gonna be sticking to <<Redacted>> like glue on my first playthrough. He is just SO adorable. Easily my favorite character.
Won't let me install..... is this game not ready for Desktop? I have it added to my collections, hope to play this soon! Looking forward to seeing how this plays. <3
It's not out just yet, but soon! It'll be live on April 5th and all ready for you, but in the meantime there's still all my old posts about it to port over to hopefully get people excited!
Thanks for the interest, and I hope you enjoy it when you get your paws on it!

You can find thorough explanations for different aspects of worldbuilding in devlog, if it helps.
Thanks for letting me know!! I'll go read those now
Goodness, thank you so much!
Really loving the characters and setting, cant wait to see more! (Tulemeni was a personal favourite besides Obaa) :3
A question, though! Would you take donations on Itch, IN GENERAL, or would you prefer all funds come from Patreon instead?
Nevermind my dumbass didnt check if you could donate to begin witttthhhhhh— 😔

Thank you for making this amazing vn of yours and keep up with your amazing project :D
I'm glad that you're enjoying him!
please continue this amazing project, it its really well writed.
I've got a couple of questions about the interactions in this game.
If you go for a platonic route with Mizz, for example, he will eventually hit on you? Or you must raise his lust in order for that to happen?
And if Rael is asexual, if the former, he will still hit on you but there won't be dialogue options for that path or he simply won't do that ever?
If you lock your romance with Mizz out of the equation, you'll not express any sexual interest in him. This doesn't mean he won't flirt; that's just in his nature! Even an asexual Rael still gets hit on from time to time by Mizz, but he knows that it won't go anywhere.
Ace Rael or an uninterested Rael simply won't ever be given the option to get down and dirty with Mizz, and narrative and dialogue will reflect that choice. None of your choices for Rael will stop that cheetah, though, heh heh. Hope that helps!
I've got a another question lul
Absolutely phenomenal writing, both hilarious and memorable.
Can I ask what fonts are used for the game? I recognize the itch.io page as Oxanium, but I don't recognize the game fonts.
Why'd you leave 9 download options though?
Hiii dear developer!👋
Hey, and thanks for the interest!
Have a good day❤️
Sooo, are you willing to give us permission?
Sorry, I completely missed your response!
Waiting for more!
Thanks!
You got my support on Patreon! ^^
And I am so, so grateful to you, and to everyone who's willing and able to support Void Dreaming! Thank you so much!
You should check "Augmentation" in devlog.
You passed! Rael is one of the best MC and I can't wait for action and sexy moments
I'm glad to hear it! There's still so much more to come, so I'm glad to hear you're enthusiastic for it!
Joined sexy captain's crew, got sassed by glados all over again, ruthlessly cracked introvert's shell, 10/10, want more.
I'm so glad you've enjoyed your first taste of Void Dreaming! I can't wait to get more into your hands, believe me!
Seems interesting, I'll check it out once it launches
I'm glad you think so, and I hope in just under a week's time you have a blast with what I've been cooking up!
Faora... WAIT IT'S YOU??? OMG I'm a big fan of your works in SoFurry and now I'm so excited to read this!
Will there be Android version Because I really want to play it
I'm doing my best to make sure that there's an Android version ready for launch! I'm not in a position to promise anything, but at the moment my hope is that it will either be ready at launch, or shortly after. Fingers are crossed!
It's okay my friend even if it takes years I will wait just take your time (And also good luck with the project)😉❤️
Wow, the art style is amazing! I'm happy to see more visual novels in the sci-fi and space genre.
Thanks so much! I'm incredibly proud of the work that Vallhound and Rico have put into this project; they've done an incredible job bringing Void Dreaming to life. I can only hope my writing holds up to the quality standards that they've set for me!
Don't worry, I'm sure you got this!!
I can 100% guarantee that I am gonna be sticking to <<Redacted>> like glue on my first playthrough. He is just SO adorable. Easily my favorite character.
I'm so glad to hear that! He's a central part of the story, so I can't wait for you to get to know him!
I'm excited for Zuberi he's sooooooo handsome!
I'd go flying away with him to another galaxy.
I've got great news for you, then! You don't have long to go before you can journey out past fringe space with him!
OK, thanks. Yea, looking forward! :)
